Havana

Havana (Cuba's capital) is an amazingly interesting city, where old USA meets ancient Spanish roots and a South American influence. The roads are literally littered with old American cars, and the streets are fascinating to walk around.

Driving around Havana

Not a singular attraction, but when I was in Havana I hired a guide for a day, who took me around in an old American sports car (convertible). To this day this remains one of my favourite ever travelling activities, so do try this if you get the chance.

Club Tropicana

Club Tropicana

The drinks aren't free as the song suggests (although the entrance fee does include a cocktail and a half bottle of rum), and the George Michael music video wasn't filmed here due to political tensions at the time, but the world famous Club Tropicana is in Havana, and a great night out and experience.

 José Rodríguez Fuster's House

In Havana you can visit the house of José Rodríguez Fuster. He still lives there (he did in 2012 anyway!), so not only can you walk around the house and admire all the artwork, you can meet the artist and buy and original piece from his workshop.

Parque Almendares

Offering cool shade and some quiet away from the insanity of Havana is Parque Almendares, also known as Bpsque de La Haband (Havana's Forest). This is the only urban forest in the city.

Plaza de la Revolución

Plaza de la Revolución

In the centre of the city, with its iconic images of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, Plaza de la Revolución is a good place to walk around and take some very Cuban photos.

Streets of Havana

Havana is a fascinating and vibrant city, and a lot of fun can be had from just walking. Get guidance first on where to walk however, as there some areas best avoided for safety reasons.

La Floridita

La Floridita

Made famous by Ernest Hemingway, La Floridita is THE place in Havana (if not Cuba) to have a Daiquiri.

Directions to the museum

Rum is synonymous with this part of the world, and Havana Club is a very well known Cuban brand. Visit their museum to learn about rum and, more importantly, do some rum tasting.
