Melbourne

Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria, and Australia's second most populous city. As it does not reside on the East coast,a lot of backpackers miss Melbourne off their trip. This gives Melbourne a different feel to the East coast.

Melbourne is an international cultural centre, with cultural endeavours spanning major events and festivals, drama, musicals, comedy, music, art, architecture, literature, film and television. Melbourne is also the birthplace of Australian film and television.

Ramsey Street Tour Bus

The long running soap opera Neighbours is very popular all over the world, especially in the UK. It is filmed in the suburbs of Melbourne, and you can take a tour of the show,

You are picked from in a not so subtle bus from various stops around the city, and taken to the famous street (not called Ramsey Street in real life obviously).

A couple of the surprising things about this street is how small it is (it has 6-10 houses at most despite the show referring to much higher numbers) and that people really live in the houses - so it must be annoying to have tourists outside your house all day having photos taken!

The Yarra River runs through the centre of Melbourne, and is a river cruise is a good way to see the city for those who don't have much time in Melbourne.
