Petra
Petra is one of the ancient wonders of the world, and this ancient city hidden away in the mountains of Jordan is simply incredible!
Petra is however probably the most expensive tourist place I have ever been. I can not remember an entrance fee to anywhere which rivals the 50 JORD it costs to come here (on top of the expensive transport you would have paid to get to the region). This is a once in a lifetime trip however so I didn't begrudge paying this fee.

The walk from the ticket office to the entrance to the winding hidden path of Petra is about 15-20mins of walking, which in the summer and no shade can be very warm. You are told that you get a horse ride included in your ticket, and you pay just a tip only - but this tip is 5 JORD which is quite a hefty tip! The horse wranglers can be very pushy, but can be ignored if you prefer to walk.
