PanShan
PanShan is 90kms from Beijing, and is most famous for it's mountain Mount Pan. In the nearby town you will find a very traditional looking Chinese city, far from the beaten track of tourists, making it a wonderfully interesting place to explore.
It's also an excellent base for exploring less-crowded parts of the Great Wall of China.

Mount PanShan
PanShan's main attraction, the mountain is at the edge of the town and easily accessible by taxi.
Near the base of Mount PanShan
You can either walk to the top or take the cable car (which is perfectly safe), just remember that this part of China gets very hot in the summer, so take lots of liquids if attempting the walk.

Hitting the bell at the top of Mount PanShan
For a small fee you can hit a bell with a giant log 3 times in the temple. I highly recommend trying this out!
